The Bariatric Skinny Lap-Band Diet plan is a four phase program specifically created for eating after Lap-Band surgery. Lap-Band Diet Rules:

Phase 1 – Clear Liquids
  • Day 1 and day 2 post surgery.
  • Calories to eat: under 1,000 per day.
  • Fluid ounces to consume: 32 or more per day.

Phase 2 – Full Liquids
  • Day 3 through day 12 after surgery.
  • Calories to eat: 500 - 1,000 per day.
  • Fluid ounces to consume: 32 or more per day.
  • Minimum grams of protein per day: 40 for women, 60 for men.

Phase 3 – Soft/Moist Foods
  • Day 13 to the end of month 2 post surgery.
  • Calories to eat: 1,000 - 1,400 per day.
  • Calorie breakdown: 40% carbs, 30% fat and 30% protein.
  • Choose soft/moist foods which can be pureed in your mouth.
  • No raw vegetables and fruits.
  • No crunchy foods: popcorn, seeds, nuts, etc.

Phase 4 – Regular Diet
  • Begins on the first day of month 3 after surgery.
  • Calories to eat: 1,000 and 1,600 per day.
  • Calorie breakdown: 40% carbs, 30% fat and 30% protein.
  • Maximum of 300 – 400 calories per meal.
  • 25 grams or more of fiber per day.
  • Low in omega-6 and high in omega-3 fatty acids.

Important Post-Lap-Band Diet Tips:

Along with following a post-Lap-Band diet plan, it is recommended that patients avoid carbonation for 6 months post-surgery, take a multivitamin daily and adhere to certain habits when eating. The tips below are generally advised. Please consult your physician before following any Lap-Band surgery diet related suggestions.
  1. Eat protein first at each meal.
  2. Avoid carbonation for 6 months after surgery.
  3. Take a multivitamin supplement daily.
  4. Do not use straws (risk of gulping air).
  5. Eat 3 meals and 2 to 3 scheduled snacks a day - do not skip any meals.
  6. Eat slowly and chew foods at least 20 times to puree in your mouth.
